I'm Nereida "Nellie" Rivera O'Reilly
I am running for Senate again because I’m not done fighting for St. Croix.
I have been your voice in the Senate before, and I’m ready to go back and do what I do best—hold the government accountable, cut through the red tape, and get things done.
I was born right here on St. Croix. I’m a proud student of St. Croix Central High School. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Finance. I have a background in human resources and over 15 years of experience as a paralegal.
I Know the System—And I’m Not Afraid to Call It Out
When I was elected to the 15th Virgin Islands Board of Education, I went right to work pushing for Single Gender Education to help our kids succeed in a focused environment. When I was elected as your senator in 2008, I stepped in as the only woman in the Legislature and spent the next 10 years working relentlessly on improvements to healthcare, financial transparency, wasteful spending, and holding agencies accountable. I’m proud of the work I did.
Why Am I Running Again?
I do not take your vote for granted. I’ve always been blunt, direct, and ready to stand up, speak out, and work. I’m here to make sure every penny of our tax dollars is used wisely and that the people who are supposed to be working for you get the job done.
I'm not running to sit quietly in meetings and nod along. I'm running to ask the tough questions, demand real answers, and fight for the people of St. Croix. If you want someone who isn't afraid to speak up, hold government accountable, and get things done, I would be honored to earn one of your votes on November 3rd.
What Will I Do?
Here’s what you can expect when I’m back in the Senate:
- Watchdog Over Government Spending: I'll fight to make sure every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely. I'll ask the tough questions, expose waste, and hold every agency and department accountable for the promises they make to the people of the Virgin Islands.
- Better Education for Our Kids: I'll work to make sure more education funding reaches our classrooms, where it has the greatest impact on students, instead of being tied up in unnecessary administrative costs. Every child deserves a quality education, the support they need to succeed, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
- Real Economic Opportunities: St. Croix has the potential to be an economic leader. I’ll make sure we attract businesses that create good jobs with benefits and that our people are the first ones hired.
- Healthcare Access That Works: It's time to take healthcare seriously. We need better facilities, more doctors and specialists, and partnerships that expand access to quality care right here at home. No one should have to leave the Virgin Islands or spend months waiting to get the care they need.
I Don’t Make Empty Promises
You know me. I say what I mean, and I follow through. I've been married to my husband, John, for 38 years, and we've raised our family right here on St. Croix. This isn't just where I work. It's where I live, where my family is, and where I want to see real change.
Let's get back to business. Let's get back to accountability. Let's get back to making St. Croix the best it can be.
Always for St. Croix,
Nellie O'Reilly
I'm ON the ballot for 2026, and I'm asking you to choose me as one of your seven on (or before) Nov 3rd so I can get back to working for you.
